GAINS is a monthly Ontario top-up for low-income seniors who already get OAS and GIS. It is calculated automatically from your tax return.
How muchUp to $92 per month for the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year, depending on age, marital status and private income.

Who qualifies
- You are 65 or older
- You receive Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement
- You have lived in Canada for at least 10 years
- You lived in Ontario for the last 12 months or 20 years total since age 18
- Your private income is no more than $4,416 (single) or $8,832 (couple)
How to apply
- Make sure you are receiving OAS and GIS
- File your tax return every year by April 30, even with no income
- GAINS is assessed automatically; no separate application
