Tax filing deadlines

Français

Many benefits and credits depend on your yearly tax return. These dates come from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). BenefitCanada is an independent service and is not affiliated with the CRA.

Key dates each year

  • April 30 — Income tax and benefit return due for most individuals. Any balance owing is due this day.
  • June 15 — Filing deadline for self-employed individuals. Any balance owing is still due April 30.

If a date falls on a weekend or holiday, the CRA may accept the return on the next business day. Confirm each year's dates on canada.ca.

Why filing matters for benefits

The CRA uses your return to assess the Canada child benefit, the GST/HST credit and some provincial credits. If you do not file, these payments can be delayed or stopped.

Add reminders to your calendar

Download a yearly reminder. It opens in most calendar apps, and it repeats every year.
